Fuel-efficient diesel engines are finally making a comeback in the United States and from Killington to Rutland, VT. Of course, the innovative Jeep brand is certainly jumping on the trend. In the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, three engines are offered, one of which is a 3.0-liter turbo diesel.

This new diesel is built by VM Motori of Itlay, and it will also be featured in the new Maserati Ghibli sport sedan, which made its debut recently at the Shanghai auto show. The new diesel is said to average 30 mpg on the highway and have a driving range that exceeds 730 miles. Other engines available with the new Jeep Grand Cherokee  include a 3.6-liter V-8 engine that achieves 17 mpg city/ 26 mpg highway, and a large and in-charge 5.7-liter V-8 that gets 14 mpg city/22 mpg highway.

Working with these engines is an eight-speed automatic transmission that increases fuel-efficiency across the lineup.

You may be wondering exactly how fast the new turbo diesel engine is. As Chrysler spokesman Patrick Hespen explains, "We do not publish 0-60 numbers, but in testing by some automotive magazines and websites it has reach[ed] 60 [mph] in under 8 seconds."1

Of course, the best way to experience these new powertrains is by taking a test drive in the new Jeep Grand Cherokee, available now at Brileya's Chrysler Jeep, conveniently located in Rutland, VT.
